A cracked molar that twinges when you bite down, an old filling that finally gave way, or a gap where a tooth used to be can make eating, speaking, and smiling feel harder than they should. If any of that sounds familiar, our team at Family Dental Care in West Palm Beach can help you rebuild what has been damaged or lost. Restorative dentistry is the part of our work focused on bringing teeth back to healthy function. We approach it the same way we approach everything else here: one practical step at a time, with a plan that makes sense for your mouth.
Restorative dentistry covers the treatments we use to repair teeth that are decayed, broken, worn, or infected, and to replace teeth that are missing. The goal is to restore your ability to chew comfortably, protect the remaining tooth structure, and keep your bite working the way it should. Depending on what we find, that might mean a simple dental filling for a small cavity, an inlay or onlay for a tooth with moderate damage, or a crown to cover and strengthen a tooth that has lost a significant amount of structure.
It helps a wide range of patients. We see people with a single problem tooth, people managing several aging restorations at once, and people who have lost teeth and want a stable way to replace them. Options for missing teeth include bridges, complete and partial dentures, and dental implants, along with implant-supported bridges and dentures. For patients with extensive needs, we also provide full mouth rehabilitation, which coordinates multiple treatments into one organized plan.
Restorative care starts with an honest look at what is going on. During your first visit, we perform a dental exam and cavity detection to see where the damage is and how deep it goes. If a tooth is painful or infected, we evaluate whether root canal therapy can save it. We treat front teeth, premolars, and molars, and we also perform root canal retreatments and care for cracked teeth. Saving a natural tooth is often our first consideration. When a tooth cannot be saved, we discuss extraction and what replacement makes sense afterward.
Candidates should also know that the health of the gums and bone matters. Crowns, bridges, and implants all depend on a healthy foundation, so we may recommend gum disease treatment, scaling and root planing, or bone grafting before restorative work begins. In some cases, crown lengthening helps expose enough tooth structure for a crown to fit properly. If you feel anxious about dental work, we offer oral sedation to help you stay more relaxed during treatment.
How We Deliver Restorative Treatment
Because our office brings general, cosmetic, and specialty-level services together under one roof, we can handle many steps of a restorative plan without sending you across town. Dr. Michael Westcott and Dr. Sujay Trivedi both practice general, cosmetic, and emergency dentistry. That means the same team that finds a problem can usually treat it, and can coordinate with specialists when a case calls for it. For complex situations, we plan treatment in a sequence so that each step supports the next.
Appearance is part of restoration too. Many of our restorations can be matched to your natural teeth. When a patient wants to improve the look of their smile while repairing it, we can fold cosmetic options such as composite bonding, porcelain veneers, or a smile makeover into the same plan. Common restorative situations we address include:
- A tooth with a large cavity or a failing older filling
- A cracked, chipped, or badly worn tooth
- A tooth that needs protection after root canal therapy
- One or more missing teeth needing a bridge, denture, or implant
- Loose or uncomfortable dentures that need repair or replacement
Aftercare, Results, and Payment
Aftercare depends on the treatment, and we walk you through the specifics before you leave. In general, restored teeth need the same daily brushing and flossing as natural teeth, plus regular cleanings and exams so we can check that crowns, fillings, and bridges are holding up. Patients with implants benefit from ongoing implant maintenance. If you grind your teeth, a night guard can help protect your restorations. Results vary from person to person, and we will be clear with you about what to expect from your specific treatment.
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims on your behalf. We also welcome self-pay patients. Our team is glad to review your options and explain costs before treatment begins, so there are no surprises.
