Maybe you have worn a full denture for years and are tired of adhesives and slipping at the dinner table. Maybe several of your teeth are failing at once, worn down, cracked, or loosened by gum disease, and patching them one at a time no longer makes sense. Or maybe you have been putting off care because the problem feels too big to tackle. These are the situations where we most often talk with patients about full mouth dental implants, a way to replace an entire arch, or both arches, of missing or failing teeth with a stable, implant-anchored restoration.
Full mouth dental implants replace a complete set of upper teeth, lower teeth, or both. Rather than placing an implant for every missing tooth, we position a small number of implants strategically in the jawbone. Those implants then support a full arch of replacement teeth. You may also hear this approach called All-on-X or full arch dental implants. The "X" reflects that the number of implants is planned around your anatomy rather than fixed in advance.
There is more than one way to restore an arch on implants. A fixed implant-supported bridge stays in place and is removed only by our team. An implant-supported denture, sometimes called a snap-in denture, attaches securely to the implants but can be taken out at home for cleaning. We walk you through both options so you can weigh stability, upkeep, and personal preference before deciding.
One of the most common questions we hear is, "Do I have enough bone for implants?" When teeth have been missing for a while, the jawbone can shrink. That does not automatically rule you out. We offer bone grafting to rebuild areas that need extra support, and our planning accounts for this from the start.
Another frequent concern is what happens to the teeth you still have. If remaining teeth are failing, we can handle both simple and surgical extractions as part of your treatment. Healthy gums matter too. Because we provide gum disease treatment, including scaling and root planing, we can address infection or inflammation before implants are placed. Patients who feel anxious about treatment can ask us about oral sedation, which can help you feel more relaxed during your visits.
Full mouth implants often involve several disciplines working together, including surgery, gum care, and restorative design. Our office handles complex treatment planning across specialties, and we use digital smile design to help you see and shape the look of your new teeth before the final restoration is made. If you are coming to us on your own, you do not need a referral to schedule a consultation.
Caring for Your Implants After Treatment
Your new teeth are not susceptible to cavities, but the gums and bone around implants still need daily attention. At home, that means thorough brushing and cleaning around and beneath your restoration as we show you. For patients with removable implant-supported dentures, it also means taking the denture out to clean both the appliance and the implant attachments.
Professional care is just as important. We provide ongoing implant maintenance and periodontal maintenance to monitor your gum health, check the fit of your restoration, and catch small issues early. Our hygienists and dentists, including Dr. Michael Westcott and Dr. Sujay Trivedi, see you for regular visits to keep your implants in good condition. A few habits we encourage:
- Clean around your implants daily using the tools and techniques we recommend
- Keep your scheduled maintenance visits so we can monitor your gums and bone
- Tell us promptly about soreness, looseness, or changes in your bite
- Ask about a night guard if you clench or grind your teeth
Paying for Full Mouth Dental Implants
Because full mouth implants are tailored to each person, the cost depends on your treatment plan. It varies with the number of implants, whether you need extractions or bone grafting, and the type of restoration you choose. We review your plan and its costs with you clearly before any treatment begins, so there are no surprises.
We accept all major PPO insurance plans, and our team can help you understand how your benefits may apply. We also welcome self-pay patients and are happy to talk through your options in a straightforward, no-pressure conversation.
