Biting into an apple, laughing without worrying, speaking clearly through a long meeting: these everyday moments can feel uncertain when a denture shifts or slips. For many of our patients in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, and Palm Beach Gardens, implant-supported dentures offer a steadier way to replace missing teeth. These dentures attach to dental implants instead of resting only on the gums. Below, we explain how they work, who they tend to help, and how we plan care at Family Dental Care.

An implant-supported denture is a full or partial set of replacement teeth anchored to dental implants placed in the jaw. A traditional denture relies on suction, adhesive, and the shape of the gums to stay in place. An implant-supported denture connects to fixed anchors, so it is held more securely. Some designs are removable and click onto the implants, often called snap-in dentures. Other designs stay fixed in place, similar to the full-arch approach used in All-on-X dental implants.

This option can help people who are missing most or all of their teeth in one or both arches. It also suits current denture wearers who are frustrated with movement, sore spots, or adhesive. Some patients come to us with failing teeth that need to be removed. Others have worn a conventional denture for years and want something more stable. Because we offer implant placement, extractions, bone grafting, and denture care in one practice, we can plan for each of these situations.

Patients often ask whether they are "too far along" for implants or whether their bone is strong enough. The honest answer is that it depends on a careful evaluation. Over time, the jawbone can shrink where teeth are missing. When there is not enough bone to support an implant, bone grafting may be recommended first to build up the area. Healthy gums matter too. If gum disease is present, we can address it with treatments such as scaling and root planing before moving forward.

Our team also looks at the bigger picture. That includes your existing teeth, your bite, your health history, and your goals for appearance and function. Some cases call for extractions, grafting, implant placement, and the final denture, all coordinated in sequence. We handle complex treatment planning that brings these steps together, and we accept patients without a referral. For patients who feel anxious about dental work, we offer oral sedation to help make visits more comfortable.

How Implant-Supported Dentures Compare to Other Options

Not every patient needs the same solution, so we walk through the alternatives openly. Conventional complete or partial dentures remain a good choice for many people, and we provide them. If you already wear a denture, we can also repair or replace it. For patients missing only a few teeth, crowns, bridges, or implant-supported bridges may be a better fit than a denture.

When we compare options together, we usually discuss:

  • How securely each option stays in place while eating and speaking
  • Whether the teeth are removable for cleaning or fixed in place
  • How many implants may be involved and whether grafting is needed
  • What daily care and long-term maintenance each choice requires

These conversations help you choose based on your priorities rather than guesswork. Some patients value the convenience of removing their teeth at night. Others want teeth that feel as permanent as possible.

Caring for Your Denture and Protecting Your Results

Implants do not get cavities, but the gums and bone around them still need attention. Daily cleaning of the denture and the areas around each implant helps keep tissues healthy. If your denture is removable, you will clean it outside the mouth as well as the implant attachments. Fixed designs require careful cleaning around and beneath the teeth. We show you the techniques and tools that suit your specific restoration.

Regular visits are just as important. Our office provides implant maintenance and periodontal maintenance to monitor the health of your gums and the stability of your implants. Over time, removable attachments can wear and may need adjustment or replacement. Routine checkups let us catch small issues early and keep your new teeth comfortable and functional.

Insurance, Payment, and Planning Ahead

Because implant-supported dentures often involve several stages, we provide a clear treatment plan before you begin. That way, you understand each step and its cost. We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims on your behalf. Our team can help you understand what your plan may contribute toward your care.

We also welcome self-pay patients. If you do not have dental insurance, we are happy to review your options and help you plan treatment in a way that works for you.

If loose dentures or missing teeth are holding you back, we would be glad to meet you. Contact Family Dental Care in West Palm Beach to schedule a consultation. Drs. Westcott and Trivedi and our team will take the time to answer your questions and help you find the right path forward.
